March News from the Principal

Good afternoon,

Just a reminder that there is no school on Thursday or Friday this week. Chinook’s Edge has partnered with Red Deer Catholic School Division to align our bussing schedules and they do not have school on these two days. While it seems that there are a lot of breaks, I can assure you that there are the same amount of instructional days as there were in first semester.

École HJ Cody has produced some exciting school events lately! Congratulations to Ms. Renwick, Ms. Heisler, Ms. Mielke, and all of our students and parents who spent endless hours of preparation to present such an amazing  show, “The (Almost) Totally True Story of Hansel and Gretel”. Thank you to Mr. Kennedy, Mr. Steadman, Ms. Schaab, Ms. Wilson, Mr. Paul, Mr. Gardiner and Mr. Weimer as well as all of the players who are finishing up a very successful basketball season.

Our new family school wellness worker Dawn Wood has transitioned from her previous high school and will be beginning with us on Monday March 13th. Please feel free to contact her at dwood@cesd73.ca.

Please mark your calendars for parent teacher interviews on the evening of March 23rd from 5:00-8:00 pm. Our grad committee will be hosting their bake sale in the common area and there will also be supper available offered for purchase at the newly named “Kitchen Table”. Furthermore, there will be an opportunity for parents to complete a quick survey to provide us feedback for areas of celebration as well as areas of growth.

Grad class of 2017, thank you for the patience you have shown us as we prepare to host our graduation ceremonies here in Sylvan Lake. We know that it is an extremely important time in a child's life, and we wish to give you as much information as possible. Here is the latest information that we have received from the Town of Sylvan Lake. They are currently waiting for occupancy numbers from the Fire Department. Once these numbers are confirmed, we will be able to forward those numbers to our equipment rental company (GES) so they will be able to make a plan, using these numbers. Once they come up with a floor plan, we will then be able to tell you how many tickets each grad can have.

Pier Photo - 9:00am

Convocation - 11:00am (Should be over by 1:30)

Banquet – 6:00pm

Tickets: Tickets will go on sale end of April/early May. We use a program where you are able to choose your table according to the proximity to the stage, your friends, etc. Tickets will ONLY be able to be purchased online. Watch for another parent meeting to explain all of the details closer to the date that tickets go on sale.

**Grad and any other fees MUST be paid before tickets can be purchased**

Grad Photos: March 13th – 20th Contact Mrs. Johannesson for information on how to sign up for your grad photo appointment if you haven't already done so.

Baby Photos: Please submit at the office or directly to Mr. Tuck.

Waiver: Your signed waiver (an agreement to not be under the influence during any grad event) must be passed in to Mrs. Johannesson before you are able to participate in grad.

Grand March Partners:Let Mrs. Smallman know who you wish to walk with (groups of 2-3 only).

Application to graduate:Complete and hand into Mr. Payne.

Grad Bake Sale:March 23rd during Parent Teacher Interviews. Please bring baking to room 209 on March 23rd to support your grad class.
