Hey Everyone! Welcome to the 2025-2026 School year!
My name is Sybil DeJonge and I am happy to be back at HJ Cody for my fourth year. This year I am excited to be teaching Grade 9 and 10 PE, and Grade 9, 10 and Advanced Outdoor Ed as well as Coaching the JV Girls Volleyball Team. I am also thrilled and honoured to be able to drive the bus around the community supporting our Lakers in their various sporting events and field trips.
I continue to seek passion in being physically active both indoors and outdoors, especially when it comes to endurance activities. A few of my hobbies I like to embrace are as follows: marathons, triathlons, hiking, XC and downhill skiing, camping, and working out. This summer I completed an Ironman (triathlon race) in downtown Ottawa where I swam in the Ottawa River, rode along the Rideau Canal and ran in front of the Parliament buildings. I am very grateful for opportunities like this, and a chance to experience different parts of our beautiful country. I also like to continue gaining knowledge and further developing my skills as an educator and have taken part in various workshops with Alberta Hunter Education and learned lots about survival skills, archery, bowhunting, and fishing. I also enjoy reading, traveling and taking my dog for walks throughout the paths around Sylvan.
I am pleased to be part of the HJ Cody staff (once a Laker, always a Laker) and looking forward to teaching and getting to know your children and sharing my knowledge and passion about physical activity, wellness and the outdoors with them. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions, comments or concerns.
Here’s to an excellent year ahead,
Let's Go Lakers!
